Predictions
Do not open your bag of candy until you are asked to do so!
- Open Excel and Save As [your name] Quality Control
- In cell A1, add the title "[your name]'s Quality Control - Predictions. Change the font, color, and size of text as desired.
- Change the Worksheet tab name to "Predictions" and the color of the tab to Yellow.
- In cell A3, key "Count Estimate:"
- In cell C3, key an estimate for the total number of M&Ms or Skittles that you think are in your package.
- In cell A5 and continuing down column A, key a list of colors that are in your package of candy:
- M&Ms - red, green, blue, yellow, brown, and orange
- Skittles - red, purple, green, yellow, and orange
- In cell B5 and continuing down column B, key in your estimate as to the number of each color included in your package.
- In cell A11 key "Total:"
- In cell B11, enter a formula to add the estimates using cell references to do so. Remember that all formulas start with an equal sign. Your formula might look similar to this: =B5+B6+B7+B8+B9+B10 or =SUM(B5:B10)
- Is the total equal to your count estimate in cell C3? If not, adjust your color guesses until the total equals your estimate in cell C3. Note: If you used cell references in your formula as shown in direction 9, the total will adjust as you make changes - no need to edit the formula!

We would now like to visually display our predictions by creating a pie chart in Excel from the data in our Excel spreadsheet. Basic steps will be provided below, but feel free to click here for more detailed information on creating a pie chart in Excel 2010.
- Select the cells that contain the candy colors and count estimates.
- Click on the Insert Tab > Charts Group > and select a Pie chart layout of your choice.
- Change the layout of the chart so that the percentage is placed in each pie slice and the chart legend is to the left of the chart. Design Tab > Chart Layouts group
- Change the color of each slice of the pie to match the color of candy it represents. Change the borders of each slice to black or the same color as each pie slice.
- Change the font of the percentages in the slices to white, bold, and to at least a 12-point font of your choice.
- Explode the pie slice that represents the largest pie piece. (You should be able to select that piece of the pie only and drag it out and drop it.)
- Title the chart "{First Name]'s Predictions"
- Save!
- Get a zip-lock bag before continuing now and label with your name using a Sharpie.
