Database Queries

  1. Open your Access Football database

     

  2. Create query by using the Query Design button. 

     

  3. Add the team Colors table and add each field to the columns below. Click the Show check box for the ID field (We do not want to see this field when the results of your query are shown.)

     

  4. Click in the Criteria field for 1st Color and type “Black” and click the Run Icon on the Toolbar. After clicking on the run icon a table will appear with the answer to your query.

     

  5. Open a Blank Word Document. Save it in your database folder with the name [Last Name] Football Query Results. Create a header with your Name, Hour, Name of Class, Date and Football Query Results. Put the title Football Query Answers on the top of the paper. Leave this document open and click back on your Access Query Window.

     

  6. The first football team name should be highlighted. (If not just click anywhere on the table.) Hold down the Ctrl Key (Control Key) and then press the A your whole table will now be black. (Using the Ctrl Key and the A allows you to select all of the material in the screen you are on.) 

     

  7. Hold the Ctrl Key down and press the C (this is a keyboard shortcut for Copying)

     

  8. Click over to your Word Document called Football Query and click below your title Football Query Answers (You may have to hit the Enter key a couple of times to get a few empty lines.) Hold the Ctrl Key down and press the letter V (this is a keyboard shortcut for Pasting.)  Label this pasted table Query >Team 1st Color Black.

     

  9. Go back to your query and click on the Design View Icon. Delete “Black” in the 1st Color Field. You are now ready for your second query. Click in the Criteria field for 2nd Color and type “Red” and click the Run Icon on the Toolbar.

     

  10. Copy and Paste the results of this query to the Word document started above. (This should be just below the first table that was pasted.)  Label this pasted table Query > Team 2nd Color Red.

     

  11. Go back to your query and click on the Design View Icon. Delete “Red” from the 2nd Color Criteria Field. You are now ready for your third query. Click in the Criteria field for Team and type Between “G” and “M” and click the Run Icon on the Toolbar.

     

  12. Once again Copy and Paste the query results into your Word Document.  Label this pasted table Query > Team Between G and M

       

  13. Go back to your query and Click in the Sort field of Team click on the arrow that appears and chose Descending.

     

  14. Click on the Run Icon on the Toolbar. Your query results should now appear.

     

  15. Copy and Paste the query results into your Word Document. Label this pasted table Query > Team Descending Between G and M.

     

  16. Go back to your query Click on Sort field of the Team and click on the arrow and choose Not Sorted. Go down and erase Between “G” and “M” from the criteria field.

     

  17. Make your own query and copy and paste the results into your Word Document Football Query Answers. Create your own sentence below the last table you copy and pasted into your Word document explaining what your query was for.

     

  18. Save your Word Document and upload to Edmodo!
