Creating an Access Database

  1. Open Access and create a new database by going to File and Clicking on New then click on Blank Database. Save the database by going to File and then Save Database as. 

     

  2. Save the file in Access Folder using your last name and the name of the file. It will look something like this:  Jansen-Football.  Make sure this is saved to your folder within your Microsoft Office class folder.

     

  3.  In the Database Window click on Table and then double click on Create table in Design View

     

  4. Type the following fields to set up your table.

    Field Name

    Data Type  

    Description

    Team

    Text   

    Name of Team

    1st Color

    Text  

    1st Color of Team

    2nd Color

    Text  

    2nd Color of Team

     

  5. Notice how your "ID" field has the little key icon by it. This means that the ID is the primary key and no two records in this field will be the same. Close your table by clicking on the second X in the upper right hand corner of the Table Window. 

     

  6. When it asks you if you want to save your table Click Yes.

     

  7. Name the table Team Colors and press Enter. 

     

  8. Double click on your new table and enter the data below. (Remember do not do anything with the ID (AutoNumber) this is the Primary Key that Access automatically assigns for you just tab over it.)

  9. Close your table when complete by using the second X on the right side of the window you are working in.

     

  10. Save and Close the database.  You are now ready to keep moving down the field.  Click here to continue...
